How can I respond? Guilty as charged! Hello and welcome to How to be a Gourmand. My name is Jacqueline Roll and I love food.
A qualified accountant by trade, with most of my professional life spent managing financial projects in an array of global investment banks has left little room for me to explore outside interests.
This blog is a vehicle for me to tap into my creative side and record and share my love and passion for food and cooking.
Growing up in Scotland, I used to cause my father much angst when he posed the daily question “What would you like for dinner?” To say that I was a “fussy eater” is an understatement and he tried to remain composed when I rejected most of his suggestions (Dad, thanks for your patience!).
I’m pleased to say that I grew out of this particular bad habit (albeit to acquire new ones!) many years ago. My business degree captured an element of hospitality and tourism and living in Paris opened my eyes to the pleasure and beauty of ”La Cuisine”.
Fast forward a few years later, having moved to London and married to a Frenchman, it may have seemed a natural conclusion that we both share a strong interest in food. Except, what I often call a passion, encroaches on the borderline obsessive. Eating, breathing, living food. When I am not cooking, I am thinking about ingredients, when I am not food shopping, I’m imagining ways in which I would change recipes to put my stamp on it. On holiday, a considerable amount of time is spent trawling the restaurant menus to decide whether a restaurant is worth the visit. Have I struck a chord with anyone yet?
And so my love for food knows no limits. I enjoy reading and experiencing new trends in food but it does not mean I’m into stress inducing techniques to produce that all important perfect dish. In fact, I rather look forward to the cathartic, meditative process derived from preparing and cooking my dishes.
I am attracted to dishes that are simple to make and that pack a mean punch in the flavour ratings. Hence my tagline “More time eating, less time cooking”.
My blog focuses on recipes, culinary trends, product and restaurant reviews and since recently as well as London being my home, I now spend some of my time in Hong Kong (which I am very excited about), so you may see an Asian influence.
